I love it!

I tried this tea for the first time this evening, and I am so mellow right now! I have been looking for a non-alcoholic way to calm myself at the end of a busy work day, and I think I may have found it! THe taste and smell are delicous, too!

Could be better

There is licorice which I absolutely hate. But I don't taste nor do I smell it. When I went to my health food store I was originally searching for this Kava drink mix powder which they didn't have. My girlfriend then found this box of tea. Which I then remembered that I heard people drink Kava tea. I smelled it and it smelled so aromatic. I am more used to my Japanese style teas or other asian teas. When I made the tea and finally had a taste of it I was instantly reminded of this Korean COLD tea that also has a very prominent cinnamon scent and flavor which helped me enjoy it even more. I didn't feel exactly what I expected from it. But I did feel numbness on my tongue. I am going to try this again using more tea bags and probably a cold version since I heard that boiling it actually kills the effects of the kavalactones. But I think they should increase the amount of Kava in it so you dont need to use so many tea bags.

great for relaxation

This kava stress relief is easily the most relaxing tea I have had. This product clears the mind and offers a quick euphoric feeling. Each sip gives instant relief. I recommend it to anyone who could use the relaxation.

Best thing at 3PM work days

I love this kava, my company has yogi tea in stock in the kitchen and I use a mix of green tea with ginko IQ and gingseng vitality in the morning and really get a boost in productivity. Then the afternoon hits and its chill time w kava, most relaxing thing ever. BTW the kava chemicals affect ppl differently.

Ahh Kavaaa - Colorful Flavor Tea

It's yummy malty cinnamony, and slightly earthy. I had a bunch of my co-workers smell the tea because it was so unique, and I received responses that ranged from yummy cinnamon to port-a-potties... It did make me feel relaxed - I don't recommend drinking it at work and putting on Hawaiian music. Makes it hard to motivate your self to actually work wink

Dangers of Kava use

Kava can cause many complications, specifically in the liver. The FDA has recognized results of studies identifying Kava as a cause of liver damage. Please be wary before ingesting Kava products. http://www.cassmd.com/library/kava.warnings.html http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/02/080222111446.htm

Wow and then some

About to have gum surgery and 30 minutes after a Valium, I was still not calm apparently because my blood pressure reading was a little too high. Argh! The dentist's assistant brought me some tea and told me it was an herb tea that would help--and I sipped it in five minutes and five minutes after that, the BP was normal! 1. must drink this tea regularly for the BP and 2. Wow! talk about an easy sell! I almost want to go back for more gum surgery!

One more note

One more note from me, Colby, the reviewer below: Kava itself is habit forming, but non-addictive. I've had superb personal success with quitting smoking using this Yogi tea, especially when combined with a meager reinforcement of additional kava extract and American Ginseng. (Together they give the tea a bit more of an earthy taste.) A friend of mine is trying this for his drinking problems. It's day 3 for him, and he hasn't had a drink of anything but kava. I think he's enjoying it a little bit too much, but he says his sleep has never been more restful and he hasn't had an urge to take even one gulp of a pack he has at home. Better sleep than when using alcohol? Amazing and a half, I think. Also, contrary to what the box and many sources have to say about drinking [kava] and driving or operating heavy machinery, I find the typical yogi dosage is absolutely nothing to be concerned about, even in triple strength infusions. Unmentioned, however, is the drowsiness that comes from combining kava with heavy foods. Drink kava and eat meat or complex meals and you'll definitely want to take a nap, so caution is advised there. For those who, like me, struggle with severe, clinical depression, I'd just like to assure you that Yogi Tea's kava imbibed of before or after drinking or eating a natural cacao product is... well, euphoric, and in the safest, loveliest sense possible. Now -- NOW, go and have the best day of your life!

Kava-awa-kew-kew-delicious!

Can you tell I'm drinking Kava right now?! But it's not just kava, folks. For quite some time I've thought of the Yogi Tea company as "strictly traditional" and somewhat bland. Not to say their teas are ineffective; that's not the case at all. From Moroccan Orange Spice to Green Tea Rejuvenation, Yogi Tea boasts a clever and cost effective collection of medicinal teas for all purposes. That being said, I'm sick of black pepper, fennel, licorice... cinnamon... cardamom... even stevia. But you know what? Maybe I just haven't (or hadn't) found my favorites yet. Well, a couple weeks ago I finally did, and now I'm realizing it. Out of all the tea blends in the world, Kava Stress Relief is my favorite. It's uplifting, it's health forming, it's sustaining, satisfying and filling, it's tasty, it's strong, it's well-priced, it's warm, it's thought provoking, it's culturally colorful... and the smell reminds every single person of something different. My brother thinks it smells like cinnamon rolls. One of my friends thinks it has a pecan pie smell. Personally, I imagine myself being on a peaceful, floating island full of tropical fruit-and-nut trees when I smell it. The feeling of this tea, when brewed with 2-3 tea bags, is of a tropical, campfire-cast-away-coast-party, where worries are nil -- and of course there are roasted nuts and intoxicating beverages, maybe even some attractive company. ; ) That being said, it has licorice flavoring, and many of you might hate that. Really, I love the licorice; I think licorice counteracts the astoundingly welcome bitter of kava. Just as with Yogi Tea's Aztec Sweet Chili, you'll find a super-collaboration of masterfully-blended flavors in this tea. For those of you wishing to replace meals with something filling, effective, and tasty, pick this or the Aztec Sweet Chili. If it's this, try buying dried, organic hibiscus. Powder or crush it, and add a very small amount to the tea bag or blend. That's the missing tartness you were looking for. If not, don't add it! But, before I talk to much -- the damage has yet to be done! -- I want to make a note for all of the people complaining about kava strength/potency: This tea CAN be infused in <140 degree fahrenheit water. The taste ends up the exact same, though you'll have to steep it for an additional three to five minutes. When you're done, squeeze the bag, re-infuse, re-squeeze, and you're done. That's for a strong drink, of course; exclude the squeezing if you like it lighter. Now, as for the actual kava "content" being insufficient, you can purchase high quality, organic (or non-organic) kava extract from probably the same place you bought this tea. If the kava's not strong enough for you, dump a half capsule of extract into the tea bag (ASSUMING 250mg kava extract content per capsule). If you want it to be closer to "traditional strength," try one or two capsules, depending on your taste. Don't worry... even if you add more kava, the delicious taste of Yogi Tea's Kava Stress Relief lives on. Sorry for the blocky format. Also, do some research on kava's healthy effects and traditional use. It might take some digging if you're unlucky with search results, but be warned: there's a LOT of misinformation and disinformation out there. I can't believe some of the things said about kava... I've tested several different products on myself, and yogi's kava tea + additional extract of kava on several of my acquaintances, and nothing negative so far. In fact, I'm getting the best sleep and most vivid dreams I've ever had, and my mood has improved so much that it's unbelievable. My face has cleared up, as well, probably because of the kava-carob-sarsaparilla-cinnamon combination. Even when I go days without drinking any kava (long bouts of driving), I feel very good. Alrighty, this review's over. Have fun trying some kava, and "pst... don't tell your friends!" Where will all the kava go if everyone else is drinking it?

Sweet Dreams...

This tea made me have trippy dreams! Probably because it helped me go into a deep sleep. But the first night, I immediately fell asleep and the beginning of my dream, I was flying. It felt amazingly real. The past few months, I haven't been getting the best sleep, nor have I been dreaming. Every night before bed, I drink a cup or two and have amazingly realistic and long dreams.

Anxiety Remedy :)

I think this tea is amazing! This is the only thing I have gotton such a relief from racing thoughts and anxiety... while being able to keep concentration and my energy up. I have noticed the tea working very well on an energetic level- the numbing taste you get on the top of the tongue is just an example of the type of action it will have on the stress/nervous system. The tea has a great aroma & (I think) it also has a pretty good flavor. The more you need an herb, usually the more appealing the taste/smell/effect there will be on the body.

The best

This is the best relaxing herbal tea I have ever had. I have an impossible time falling to sleep but with drinking one cup of this tea I can drift off to sleep like a baby. I highly recommend this one, great flavor, light and sweet, not over-powering. I have lately been combining it with the Bedtime tea, but that is only because the bedtime tea wasn't my favorite by itself.

Delicious and Relaxing

This tea is naturally sweetened with stevia, and combined with all the other delicious flavors (like cinnamon and ginger), it almost seems like a little dessert. It's perfect for after dinner / before bedtime. The sensation achieved from drinking this tea is truly relaxing and comforting. I really love this tea!

Not at all what I expected

My husband got this because he has been really stressed out. He tried it and hated the taste so I tried some. It made me sleep much harder and longer than normal and when I woke up I felt groggy. I've been up for 7 hours now and I still feel groggy from it.

Pretty Good

The first thing i have to say about this tea is the licorice taste. I hate licorice. This tea reminds me of a very light Chai tea, but it does a good job at relaxing me and getting rid of some of my anxiety. Definitely recommend it.

I have alot stress and anxiety, i brew i the tea and settle down for the day.i feel peaceful and relaxed that in itself says alot about the tea,the taste and smell may not be for everyone but i certainly enjoy it. it has a wonderful after taste and melts my stress and anxiety right away!

A dissapointment...

I was a little disappointed with this tea. I think it tastes and smells absolutely awful. I was also confused because I know that kava is less effective with using boiling water instead of warm or cool.

Works well, but uh...

I've brewed two cups of the stuff. The first time I noticed the effect right away, and was well pleased. The second time I took only a few sips before feeling abdominal pains. Apparently this is a result of making extractions from the stems and leaves rather than sticking to the roots as traditional practice prescribes. Would be great if I could get a guarantee that it wouldn't incur damage on my kidneys!

This tea has really grown on me...

Looking at the previous review. I am not particularly fond of licorice. But, I am really growing to love this tea! The flavor is like no tea I have ever had before. It's actually sweet and bursting with flavors and aromas. Perhaps I like licorice after all... I would love to try pure Kava in Fiji - but, that kind of travel is not in my foreseeable future. I haven't noticed any calming effects. I probably need to brew the entire box as life at the moment is pretty stressful. wink I enjoy this tea and look forward to drinking it on a regular basis and trying other teas. Thanks for the little sayings on each tea bag string tag. It's like a fortune cookie each time. smile

Licorice! Boooooo!!!

Upon opening the packet, I was hit with the overpowering stench of licorice. Same with it's taste. I don't do licorice lol. The Kava definitely did it's job though. Knocked me right out. If this tea didn't contain 'natural licorice flavor,' I'm certain I'd enjoy it. Too bad :(.

Better then my medication!

I have generalized anxiety, which is when you worry about things that don't exist! Its constant mind and muscle tension. This stuff is definetly relaxing. I drink 2 bags in the morning so I can function! The calming tea creeps up on you, but kava lets you know when it's taking care of you : ) Although, I will drink 2 bags worth and later drink another 2 and the effect isnt as strong. I could be judging it wrong, but i've head you can build tolerance to it. Love it anyways! Tastes exactly what american herbs and spices doesn't taste like, which is good!

Brewing suggestion

This tea has a nice aromatic taste. However, the active ingredient of the Kava root (Kavalactones) is destroyed by heat. I steep the bag in cold water and find it has a stronger calming effect. My only wish is that this tea would be a little stronger. I have had real kava in Fiji, and it absolutely knocks you out and puts you into a happy zone!
