I saw an article in the newspaper this weekend that I thought I'd mention. The author described meditation as something that is not just about relaxing, but is a skill you practice to train your mind.
The article mentions a common misunderstanding about meditation. It will not stop your thoughts. It will not empty your mind. Your thoughts wil always be there, but meditation helps you observe them more neutrally, so as not to get caught up in the mental chatter, allowing you some stillness and a renewed ability to focus and be effective iin the rest of your life.
As a meditator for 40 years, I thought this was a very good overview of what meditation is really like.
For a little herbal help with your meditation, you might consider an herbal tea.
