Decaffeinating Green Tea

I received a great question about how we decaffeinate Yogi green tea. As you may know, some beverages are decaffeinated by soaking in some pretty noxious chemicals.
Not Yogi green tea. This all natural tea is gently decaffeinated using a water and carbon dioxide process, so nothing remains but healthy tea leaf, minus the caffeine.
Here are the basics of the process:
• Basic cleaning of tea leaves and remove dust
• Soak with water
• Put in pressure tank
• Pressurize tank with safe, natural carbon dioxide (CO2), which extracts the caffeine
• Dry out the excess water and draw off the CO2 gas
• Grind to size, sift and pack
Normally, green tea does contain some natural caffeine, but many tea drinkers find it to be a very mellow drink, because the l-theanine, which is a relaxant unique to green tea, helps to offsets the caffeine jitters.
Decaffeinated green tea is for those who want to further reduce their consumption of caffeine.
