Get to Know Raspn

As a mineral-rich remedy, Raspberry Leaf is often considered one of the most recognized herbs for supporting pregnancy; as well as for supporting the uterus and promoting uterine health. With its mild, earthy flavor, this herb is commonly used to make Raspberry Leaf tea.

Raspberry Leaf is a source of mild astringent compounds, which is taste produced by chemical compounds called tannins. Given its astringent nature, Western Herbalists and midwives have used Raspberry Leaf tea to aid in easing discomfort during menstruation, pregnancy, and labor.

In Ayurveda, Raspberry Leaf – with its sweet, cold and astringent properties – is used as an effective anti-pitta (cooling) herb, and has a particular affinity for the female reproductive tract. Given this affinity, we’ve used Raspberry Leaf in many of our Woman’s teas, including our Woman’s Raspberry Leaf tea, Woman’s Mother To Be® tea and Woman’s Moon Cycle® tea.

which teas u need to avoid during pregnancy

  • Yogi says:

Hello, Minu! Thanks so much for reaching out.

At Yogi, we take a conservative approach to individual health, especially when it concerns expectant and nursing mothers. While not all Yogi teas carry warnings, some of them do carry a warning to consult a healthcare provider prior to use if you are pregnant or nursing. If a Yogi tea carries this warning, it would be printed in the Supplement Facts panel on the tea’s outer carton.

There are several Yogi teas that do not carry this warning, and three teas in particular that we recommend for pregnant/nursing women:

    Woman’s Mother to Be
    Woman’s Nursing Support
    Woman’s Raspberry Leaf

In addition to the above teas, below is a list of Yogi teas that do not carry the pregnancy/nursing warning. However, given that everyone can respond uniquely to herbs and botanicals, we recommend that women consult their qualified healthcare providers regarding the consumption of Yogi teas and other supplements while pregnant or nursing. A qualified healthcare provider is best suited to identify any substances to which a pregnant or nursing woman may be uniquely sensitive.

    Chai Rooibos
    Chai Black
    Chai Green
    Classic India Spice
    Comforting Chamomile
    Green Tea Pure Green
    Green Tea Pure Green Decaf
    Purely Peppermint
    Refreshing Mint Vital Energy
    Tahitian Vanilla Hazelnut

  • Yogi says:

    Hello Obi,

Thank you for contacting Yogi! We appreciate you reaching out to us about our teas.

Here at Yogi, we take a conservative stance when it comes to individual health, especially with regard to specific medical conditions. Given that every individual responds uniquely to particular herbs and botanicals, we strongly recommend you consult your qualified healthcare provider with any questions you may have regarding the consumption of Yogi teas and medical concerns such as fibroids and pregnancy. He or she is best suited to identify any substances to which you may be uniquely sensitive and to make a recommendation in light of your personal medical profile.

Thank you again for reaching out, and please let us know if you have any further questions.

Hello! I’ve been using Raspberry Leaf for about six months now and in addition love the tangerine energy and woman’s energy teas!
Here I read that Raspberry leaf is a cooling one (anti-pitta), but I read in another ayurveda source that women in general need warming foods. I’d rather believe Yogi Bhajan knowledge, of course, but still confused about the cooling/warming food benefits for women.

  • Yogi says:

    Hello Anna,

Thanks so much for your question!

According to our in-house herbalist, women can generally benefit from a diet that is slightly warmer than that of what’s suggested for males. However, one can expect there to be a great deal of individual variation, and further, a “generally warmer” diet does not indicate that all women should only consume warming foods. This is especially true considering that there are many attributes for each herb, not just temperature! Given this information, you can still reap the benefits of Raspberry Leaf while continuing to consume a generally warmer diet.

We hope this information is helpful! Let us know of any additional questions you may have.
