Origins & Sourcing

Peppermint is a perennial plant which produces leaves with a pungent mint flavor and aroma. While Mint has been used for health purposes for thousands of years in ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt; Peppermint Leaf only gained recognition as its own distinct herb in the 1700s. Today, Peppermint Leaf is used for a number of health purposes, such as soothing indigestion, promoting respiratory function and relieving minor muscle aches.

The Peppermint Leaf used in our teas is locally sourced from selected, trusted supply partners in the Pacific Northwest; a region which Yogi also calls home. Few locations in the world provide a climate similar to the Pacific Northwest’s Columbia Basin, where intense summer heat and an average annual rainfall of 10 inches produces Peppermint Leaf with just the right flavor profile for our teas.

Peppermint Leaf & Ayurveda

In Ayurveda, Peppermint Leaf has a cooling energy, which is used to decrease the Pitta and Kapha doshas, while balancing the Vata dosha. When consumed hot – such as in a cup of tea – Peppermint Leaf is stimulating herb that promotes perspiration and helps to release toxins. By encouraging perspiration, Peppermint Leaf can also help support immune and respiratory function during the cold season, while it’s energizing and invigorating flavor can enliven the senses and help circulate energy in the body and mind.
