The large island of Madagascar is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world, home to unique flora and fauna. However, large-scale extraction of mineral resources and years of deforestation mean that many of the indigenous plant and animal species are threatened with extinction.
Naturefund is a privately held non-profit organization based in Germany. With climate change in mind, Naturefund concentrates on buying forests and replanting them to protect habitat for a great variety of species.
At Yogi, we take responsibility in our grower regions with regard to people, nature and wildlife. Our support of Naturefund helps support a reforestation program in Madagascar, where many spices used in our teas are grown, including cinnamon, clove and vanilla bean. In Madagascar, Naturefund uses a method known as ‘dynamic agroforestation’, meaning that the reforestation program focuses not only on trees, but on all surrounding plants, such as native bushes.
